NEW ZEALAND CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the New Zealand Club, to be submitted lo members at the annual meeting to be held at Mr. Lambert's office in Routh's Building at 5 o'olook this afternoon— "During the past year the war continued to curtail the activities of the club with Tespect to the number of guests to whom it whs possible to extend hospitality, and it also restricted the facilities for entertaining those it was our nrivilege to meet. The war having closed, the' coming year should afford increased opportunities for entertaining distinguished visitors, and it is with confidence hoped that our meetings will be more freauent in the future. With the advent of peace it has become possible for the Y.M.C.A. Cominitteo to permit the club to resume its meetings in its former quarters, and the thanks of the committee are duo to the association for the sympathy and consideration with which it has met our efforts to find -suitable accommodation.

, "During the year four luncheons have been held, as follow :-October 23, 1918— To the Right Hon. W. F. Massey (Primo Minister) and Sir Joseph Ward (Minister of Finance) on their return from the Imperial Conference. January 16, 1919— To the members of the French Mission, when interesting addresses on France as affected by the war were given by Messrs. Andre Siegfried and Ledercq-Motte. Membere much regretted that General Pau was unable to' bo present owing to indisposition. On this occasion the Frenoh Club joined with the New Zealand Club in entertaining the guests, and a number of lady members were present. February 27, 1919-To Chancellor Bradford, of the University of Oklahoma, whose address dealt with some of the social problems arising out of the war. June 20. 1919—T0 Brigadier-General Richardson, who referred to some of the problems that faced the Imperial Government on the outbreak of war, and spoke also' of the consideration that should be shown to our returned soldiers. Briga-dier-General M'Gavir. also addressed the members on some aspects of the war as seen from the point of/ view of an Army surgeon.

"During tho year four members- resigned, and it is with much regret that vour coramitteo has to record the deaths of Dr. A. Martin, Mr. T. C. Dawson, Mr. A. W. Young, and Sir. James Webster. The Dresent membership is 257. On behalf of your club your committee extends a hearty welcome to Mr Charles E. Wheeler, vice-president, Corporal G. 0. Sutton, our late secretary, and other members whom the olose of the war has released from military duties. On April 30 last, the date to which the financial statement was audited, the balance standing to the credit of the olub nt: the bank was .£4B Is. Id. Chargeable to this, however, is the secretary's honorarium, which has not been included in the expenditure."
