The King received deputations from the London County Council, Nonconformist ministers, ami English Presbyterian ministers. Bach presented au address of congratulation on peace. The King, replying to the County Council, said: "It rears with us to build up a new world to replace the shattered fabric of the old. Tho wakened consciousness of tlio nation demands aeiv developments and tho removal of many grave defects in the social system." Referring to housing! tho King emphasised his earnest desire that holhhig should bo left undone to realiso better ideals in home life, this alono making it possible for a real improvement in social conditions. Ho was- convinced that nothing was more essential to national prosperity and happiness than education, and true education developing to the fullest extent the spiritual, mental, and physical potentialities of every member of tho community.
