MYSTERIOUS INDIVIDUALS ORDER A STRIKE MINORITY OF THE MEN COMPLY By Telegraph-Press AsßOoiation-Oonyrlirht (Bee. August 3, 5.5 p.m.) London, July 31. The King's departure from the opera was the signal for a police strike. Tho majority of the police were surprised when mysterious individuals pushed papers into their hands ordering an immediate strike. Tho individuals hurried on without explaining tho order. Sir Nevil Macready, Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, states that only 250 police have thus far refused duty. They were immediately dismissed, and will never ho re-instated.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. London, August 1. Only 550 of tho Metropolitan Police have struck. The situation in tho city is normal. The striko in tho West End was a failure. In the House of Commons Sir Edward Shortt (Home Secretary) said tho polico strike in tho provinces had completely foiled except at Liverpool, whore 300 out of 1700 failed to report.-Aus.-N.Z.
