MANAWATU

The fact that considerable interest is being taken by poultry-keepers in tho Manawatu in the activities of the newlyorganised Manawatu Utility Poultry Club was evidenced at a meeting of that body at Palmerston this week, when a number of new motnhers ivere elected and several lettors were received from Bunnythorpe aud Rongotea settlers seeking to co-operate with tho club. The settlers in question inquired if it would bo possible for the club to dispose of their eggs along with its own output. It was decided to reply agreeing to tako delivery of the eggs, provided they wero delivered to the club at Palmerston North. The club proposes to place the whole of its output of eggs on the Wellington market, and to this end several letters were roceived from firms in that city offering to take all shipments. After 6ome discussion the acceptance of-a contract was held over until the next meeting. Notice of motion was given of a proposal to make it compulsory for all members procuring poultry foods through tho club to market all their eggs through, tho soThere will bo an election for a representative on the Ilorowlienua County Council (Te Horo riding), owing to the retirement of Councillor Cntley. The candidates aro Messrs. Fred. Coley, T. H. Windlcv, and E. MacDonakl. Mr. Harold Barber has been elected unopposed for the Tokomaru riding, Councillor F. Law having resigned. At tho closing meeting of the Foxtoii Ladies' Patriotic Guild it was announced that the patriotic shop managed by the guild had raised a-total of .£1972 9s. 3d. Presentations were made to tho president (Mrs. F. Eobinson) and the joint secretaries (Mrs. Moore and Miss J. A. Mrs. Hodge, oi To Horo, bus sold to u Levin resident, and M>r. August, To Horo, has also sold out. At Te Horo n few days ago Jlrs. Diaper slipped on some 'coucrele and broke her leg. Mr. C. J. Spiers, who recently sold his property at Te Horo, is removing shortly to To Awamutu (Waikato), where he will engage in farming. By means of public subscription, subsidised by tho Education Board, the residents of Carnarvon, Bongotea biding, have raised sufficient money to instal a i piano in the local sohoolhouso.
