POLICE CASES. A .youth named Smith pleaded guilty before Mr. W. 0. I'iddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday to ti cluirgu of theft of a Bosch magneto, valued lit ,£l2, "tlio property of Johii Fitzgerald. Chief Detective Boddam said that accused was only IS years of age. On July 4- he removed the magneto from a motorcar' and subsequently sold it for i£L Mr. 11. F. o'l3*ary, who appeared for the accused, pleaded 'for leniency and slat-' od tliht his client iiad made the false step without realising tlio seriousness of'it. '' '

A young girl admitted a, charge of theft of two pairs of shoes, valued at .El 10s., from a dancing hall. Mr, H. F. O'Leary appeared for the accused, and said that his client bad gone lo the dunce and removed the. shoes as she was going home. She was homeless and had apparently been tempted when she • knew she 1 had no prospect of buying such shoes for herself. . '
1 His Worship admonished the girl, entered ft conviction, and ordered her to come up. for sentence when called upon within six months.

On a charge of theft of a fur necklet and two pairs of stockings valued at ill 25., the. property of Daisy Cowan, a young wjiniau named Hilda Bullard was .remanded, 011 the application of Chief Detective Boddam, till July 30. She was placed in the custody of the Salvation Army authorities. Two first .offenders for insobriety were .fined lfls. each, aiid four others who had spent a night in the cells were cOnivcted and discharged.
A fine of 10s. was imposed 011 Jaines Lennon for insobriety, and for a like oll'enee William Hobson was ordered to pay 17s. Gd. medical expenses.
-JUVENILE COURT. Before .Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Juvenile Court, a boy aged 1(1 years admitted the theft of a gold watcli, valued at i's, tho properly of Mrs. Wright. The boy went to tho houso jof the complainant at Khaudallah, and finding the back door open,.walked inside and removed tho watch. The father of tlio boy said his son was a problem. He had dono his utmost to check .him. The Magistrate decided to adjgurn the case for six months, during which time the offender is to be under tho control of the Juvenile Probation Officer.
For failing to send-their children to school William Norris,, John Johns, and Walter Savage were each fined 10 s. and costs 7s. For a similar offence Thomas Nolan was fined 2s M and costs 7s.
