THE LUTON RIOT
TOWN HALL GUTTED AND SHOPS LOOTED. (Rec. July 22, 0.5 a.m.) London, July 21. Tlie rioters at Luton set fire to the Town Hall, after raiding a garage and securing petrol, which' they poured on the furniture. A raid also was made on a chemist's shop. The rioters , assailed the police with bottles, cut the fire hoses., burned public records, and looted several shops. The military restored order and now occupy the town. The Town Hall was gutted. The damage amounts to a quarter of a million—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. [A message published yesterday stated that ex-service men's grievances at juton, Bedfordshire, regarding' pensions culminated in un interruption of the peace celebrations. Sympathisers stormed the Town Hall, smashing the iurniture, and pulled down the decorations.]
