A WARNING
, ■ , RESPECTING ILLUMINATIONS. No illuminations demanding the aid of gas or electricity are to be used during the pence celebrations hy anyone. The Mayor (Jlr. J. P. Luke) warns the public, who may , perhaps attempt some form : of illumination, that they must not do so, and any infringement of the order may result in serious consequences. Several people, who produce their own current with the aid of coke-burning- suction gas plants, 'had approached him on the subject, and he had reluctantly to inform them that even such,'.means of illumination as these were absolutely barred by the Government. Many people, he knew, had made arrangements for exhibiting patriotic devices which required an illuminant behind them to 6how them up after dark, but in doing so thoy must. not utilise' any forms of light involving the burning of coal or coke. . ° This injunction really means that the only lHuminants tli© public is permitted . to use for special peace illuminations would ho acetylene lamps, kerosene lamps or flares, and caudles.
