LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

Tho fortnightly meeting cf the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. E. P. liMhwoi-th), Councillors Hobbs, West, Hardy, Cotton, Macaskiil, Mitchell, Guineas, Qleldrum, and Knight. Tho Deputy-Public Trustee wroto suggesting that the council should pipe tho water-course running through a portion of the Marlon Estate. It was resolved that no action bo taken.

It was decided that a committee consisting of tho Mayor and Councillors Knight and Macaskiil l,e appointed to consider the land settlement scheme of the Returned Soldiers' Association. The secretary of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote, advising that the board could not see its way to fr.riiish further information in reference, to the expenditure incurred in respect of patients from tlie. ljorough. It was resolved that' ihe Auditor-Gen-eral bo asked to supply the informationalso that tho_ Minister be also asked tc see that the information was supplied. The Town Clerk. Petone, forwarded an account for work done in connection ivith the recent arbitration c-n the gas trouble. It was decided not to rec-ogniso the aci count which was ordered to V returned. The acting-city engineer wrote, stating that the council's proportion for upkeep of the Hutt Road for the year endjn<r March 31, 1920, would bo .£SOO.

Tho librarian reported that during the past year tho number of books taken out was 2-102, new books added 23, books rebound. 114, now subscribers 23, total number of subscribers 525.
