PROPOSALS FOR IMPROVEMENT. !iy TelcEraph—Press Association. Tauranga, July 11. At a meeting of the Harbour"Board yesterday a report was received from Afr. Blair Mason on tho development and improvement of Tauranga Harbour. Tho report states that as tho port in the Bay of Plenty is capablo of improvement into a first-class port at least cost In admitlarge vessels, Tauranga seems destined in the natural course of events to become the principal outlet for (ho produce of this fertile ami important part of tho Dominion. The proposals for improvement are divided tinder two heads; first, immediate works inside to take largo vessels up to 23 feet draught that can now negotiate tho entrance; and, sceond, works for the admission of vessels of extreme draught at all states of the tiiip. The works immediately necessary to meet tho needs of the port, and tho increasing trade, are estimated to cost .L' 77,750 plus JJ30.000 for a dredger. Tho board decided yesterday to promote an empowering Bill to raise tho mini of £125,000.
