DEATHS ON THE RUAHINE
MAN JUMPS OVERBOARD. Whilst the Ruahine, which berthed yesterday .morning, was travelling through tho Gatun Lake, in the Panama Canal, a man named J. Rainbow, who, after carrying on war work in England, was returning to New Zeaiand, committed suicide by jumping overboard. The cry of "Man overboard" was inime. diately raised- and tho vessel stopped. A crew put off in a small l»at, but no trace, of tho man could bo found. Tho search occupied about one hour, after which tho vessel proceeded on her voyage. Tho passenger had been placed under observation at the time, his peculiar behaviour having necessitated Kiieli a precaution. . Pour children also died during the voyage, all being little girls. The names of thg parents of the children are as follow: Mr. and Mi's. D. Dakers, Private and Mrs. P. W. Young, and Gunner and Mrs. R. 0. Wheeler (who lost two daughters, twins).
