MAORI AMUCK
SMART CAPTURE BY POLICE. During the lunch hour, yesterday the officials in the parcel office at Liunbton Station were rudely interrupted in-their peaceful occupation by the abrupt entrance of a fiery Maori soldier, who at once assumed the position of supreme command and began to create a general disturbance. The efforts of the officials to calm the excited soldier were without avail, and when it came- to the question of ejecting the disturber of the peace thq officials were nonplussed by the threatening attitude of tiie now much excited Native. Hβ commenced to make, use of most objectionable language, ami refused to desist when called upon to do so. An official thereupon said that he would call the police, and the ITaorl immediately produced a loaded revolver, took up a position in a corner of the building, and said that someone would have to ';o before he was taken. Sergeant Wade and Constable Holmes, who had arrived at the station to receive some prisoners, then took a hand in the proceedings. Without any ceremony Sergeant Wade walked up to the Maori, who was waving the revolver in a threatening manner, and when the oppor. tunity offered quieKy clutched the. weapon, and succeeded in securing full possession of- it. The soldier, who had only arrived yesterday aud was somewhat under the " influence of drink, was promptly removed to the cells.
