A Chamber of Commerce lias been, formed at Martin borough to further the interests of that district.

A meeting of tho executive committee of the I'ahiatua branch of the Farmers , Union was held on .Saturday to consider the advisableness of the formation of a sub-provincial area for the district. Air. Bremner (delegate from tho Bullance branch) spoko strongly in favour of tho proposal, and after a discussion, it was resolved "That th.is meeting of delegates of tho Pahiatua and Ballanco branches decide to form a sub-provin-cial area for this district, with Pahiatua us its headquarters. Mr. AValsh was npopinted secretary of, tho area proposed, and arrangements were mado for delegntes to visit Makuri, eo that that district might also bo included in tho new area.

A painful accident befell Mr. C. Billings, of Eeikoranfi, a few days ago. He was cutting the head from a tree for milling purposes, when the head 'snapped, and Mr. Billings was precipitated into a deep gully, striking the keen blade of his axe—which had fallen from his hands, and was lying face upwards —with his face. The 'axe almost sovered Mr. Billing's nose, inflicting a very severe wound. Mr. Billings was attended to by Dr. Huthwaite, of Otnki, and is now progrossing very favourably.

The Anglican community at Levin have decided to build a new church on the site occupied by the present building. After three years of quieswncp, the Pnlmerston North Orchestral Society will make its reappearance .'lexfc week, when a capital programme will lie submitted.
