THE FORESTRY REGULATIONS
SIR FRANCIS BFjTITJ INTERVIEWED ON THE WEST COAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hokitika, July 1. A conference of representatives of West Coast local bodies and the sawmiuing industry met Sir Francis Bell to-day. Lengthy addresses were made, and the whole question of forestry regulations was discussed at great length. The position from tho We.it Coast viewpoint was strongly urged." Sir Francis Bell, in reply, w;is decidedly hostile to tho representation for a revision of tho regulations, but was more favourable .ill reference to the question of royalties affected. His statement of the position was received with disapproval and dismay. The conference subsequently resolved to enter a strong protest and make every endeavour to secure tho repeal of those portions of the regulations which were considered bound to .strangle the sawmilling industry on the West Coast.
