WATERSIDE WORKERS
MEETINGS IN WELLINGTON .YESTERDAY. A conference of representatives of waterside workers' unions was held in Wellington yesterday. Delegates iwere present from Wellington, Xyttelton, Gisbor'ne, Waitara, and Wanganui. [ The conference was stated to have been called "to discuss anomalies in the union agreement." The waterside workers are at present receiving tho increased rates of wages agreed upon a few .weeks ago. A stop-work meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union was held yesterday morning. There werc_ about 1500 members present. The meeting selected a delegate to attend the conference, which was held later in the day. . A Dominion reporter was informed subsequently that ths meeting had received a circular from the Broken Hill Millers' Union, and had voted a sum of XIOO to the funds of that union. The meeting had condemned the attitude of the employers in the flaxmilling industry in refusing to meet a certain union delegate and had agreed to "assist the flax workers to maintain their standard of living and their living wage."
