The large quantity of Brazilian, I itairciiurian, and African. beef distributed by the Government for disposal on SniUhfield has been the of much discontent, the quality being inferior and much beiow the usual standard for frozen beef. The large percentage of this beef available left the retailers with no choice but. to accept the meat or have empty shops, and matters were brought to a'climax,last'week wnen a demonstration was made by some 1000 retailers, and delegates were appointed to represent their interests' at a conference with tho Ministry of i'ood. , „ . This had the good result_ of securing a substantial release -n ■ New Zealand mutton,'lamb, and 4 beef,, which has been conspicuous by its absence during tho last few weeks.'
