INFECTIOUS DISEASES
OFFICIAL REPORT FOR A WEEK. By Telccraph—PrcßS Association. Chrittchurch, June 21. Information received by the' Hon. G. W. ttussell to-day shows that during the week ended Juno 16, 12 coses of lethargic encephalitis were reported in New Zealand. Four were in the North Hand, and eight in the South Maud. Cases of other diseases reported durini! the week were- Diphtheria 98 (3t) in North Island; 68 in South Island), influenza 32, Improvements are in hand on Quau Island, Lyttelton Harbour, to deal with cases: of infectious diseases on coastal vessels. Lyttelton is Jiot usually made the first port gf call for oceaii-BOinß vesels, and if any arrive there with influenza on board the vessel will be sent to Wellington for quarantine. Ihe Health Department feels it is not necessary to have more than two large fullycniiipped quarantine stations in the Dominion. The now buildings at Auckland will enable the station there to acommodate 700 persons. The Wellington station, .when all amusements are completed, will accommodate the same number; -
