TRIBUTE TO SIR JAMES ALLEN
WAR WORK APPRECIATED. By Telenraph—Press AasociH-tlon. Christchurch, June 21. Sir James Allen this afternoon formally opened the new military wards at the Christchurch Hospital. Mr. Horrell, cliniiunan of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, in the course of his remarks, said: "Sir James Allen has had a most strenuous time during the war period. He lias been criticised most severely by different people, fortunately only by a minority. When wo consider the work he has done during the past four or five years, we must admit lie lias performed hie service* to the country and tho Empire in a most remarkable way." Dr. Tliaeker, M.P. (Mayor) Eaid: "If Sir James Allen has had critics I have been one of the most severe, but 1 admit Sir James Allen has como through the ordeal and has proved to have done w-'l. . I say that without hesitation. It is a poor man who does not make mistakes; in fact, they axe uo good unless they make mistakes." Sir James Allen remarked: "I would like to express my gratitude to the Mayor, who has been a critic of mine, for his very generous tribute."
