TRAMWAY FACILITIES
REQUESTS AND THEIR h'ATE. To the City Council last evening tho Tramways Committee reported that they had received a report from, tho tramways manage,r in reply to a letter from Councillor Wright, in whidu' he asked 1— (1) Whether any more, cars can be allocated to the Aro Street run at rush hours; and (2; Whether more trams from Island Bay, Lyall Bay,, and Seatoun can bi diverted to the Cuba Street route, instead of running via Courtenay Place. "With reference to t'he attached letter from Councillor Wright asking whether additional cars can be placed 011 tho Aro Street riln at rush hours, and for tho diversion of more cars via the Vivian Street and Cuba Street .route," said tho tramways manager, "I .beg to state that 110 extra cars are availablo for Aro Street at present. "The traffic nianagor has, howevor, placed an extra car on the Brooklyn line between 5 and G p.m., and is also making provision for the lunch hour trafllo on both the Brooklyn and Aro Stroot lines.
".Regarding the suggestion th&t additional cars should run vja Vivian Street, the traffic manager reports that hp considers it would not ho in tho best interests of the scrvice to divert cars from Courtenay Place routo for this purposo. "Apart from, tho requirements of tho public, the Cuba Street route, on account of the single track through Viviui Street, requires a longer running time,"
