RETURN OF TROOPS FROM EGYPT
STATEMENT BY DEFENCE MINISTER. .
The vepe'i/ted complaints of alleged in, activity oi. the part of tho i ovcrninen in respect of the return of the men of the Egyptian Expeditionary lorce were brought again under tl-e jiotice of tie Minister of Defence (Si. James Allen) yesterday. Tho Minister said that ne had no fresh information to eonmium"We have telegraphed and written and dono everything wo possibly could from this end to got the men back,' said bir James Allen. "All tho information J. have hiis already been made public—that they hope to send away a chousand men in June. Wo are telegraphing a ='iun on tho matter. I can give the neoplo of New Zealand an assurance that the. delay in tho return of tho men is due to no lack of effort on the part of this Government. We have used every means and brought to bear nil the pressure we could, but the decision rests with thti Imperial Government. There are two causes of delay in repatriation of tho Egyptian Forces. One is the lack of, ships coming out by the Suez route, and tho other is that the men are no doubt being retained owing to the exigencies of the situation in Egypt in recent months."
