AN ANTI-MILITARIST
SENT TO GAOL FOR FAILING: Tf KNEOL. By Telejraph—Press Association Auckland, Juno 10. Henry. Aloysius Murphy was sentenced to fourteen days' hard labour foe having failed to make application for enrolment in the first division of reserves under tho Military Service Act. Accused arrived from Australia ou February 5. He informed the Court that he had voted against militarism, and was- an antimilitarist. Ho had douo more for democracy than all the soldiers who went to Europe. Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., said accused's. oifenco was evidently deliberate. On the latter remarking that ho had a strong antipathy to paying fines, tho Magistrate.said: "You will have ho option. Fourteen daj-s' hard labour."
