PROBLEMS FOR THE GOVERNMENT
Cabinet is holding a special meeting oil Monday to deal with the eonl situation.. First of all it will deal with the exhaustive report 'Submitted by the Board ol Trade. It is not anticipated thnt the Government will bo able to decide anything regarding this report ;n the absence of the leaders of the Government, oxcept that the decision will bo u.ade as to whether or not the report will bo released for publication. As'to :iio piosont situation, tho Government may come to other decisions, more or less important. Tho probabilities are that the ctcisions will bo v'erjr important, becausa the country has liot enough coal for its iv.cdi, and "Oio prospect of getting coal from Australia is poor. Incidentally the Pukewiio colliery is c'osed on account 01 a fdrike. In ordinary time 3 the output of this mine would not be considered to bii important, but (iie coal irom this pit keeps essential industries in the neighbourhood going, and while tile mine in closed the jnfiustries will have to be supplied fronTwier sources.
