WATERSIDE WORK
A SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT. The waterside workers' unions' have accepted an offer of increased wages made by the employers at the recent conference. It will be remembered that the employers' first offer, made in reply to the demands of the workers, was rejected by ballot. The parties then conferred again, and the employers made an amended offer, which was submitted to the workers at another ballot. A majority of the waterside workers voted for the acceptance of this amended offer. Tho amended offer wa6 an increase of 2d. per hour ordinary time, and 3d. per hour overtime. _ The rates of pay on tho waterfront will now be as follow:— Ordinary time: Cargo 2s. an hour, coal 2s. Id. an hour. Overtime: Cargo 2s. lid. an hour, coal 3s. an hour. ' These rates were granted in view of the increased cost of living.
