TWO HOUSES DAMAGED,

About six o'clock last .evening, during the 'height of the southerly gale, a fire broke out iu ,27 Roxburgh Street, a twostoried house of six rooms, owned and occupied by Mrs. Lily Oldham. The cause of the outbreak has not yet been ascertained, buf'tho llamcs were iirst noticed in one of the upstairs rooms, and immediately the alarm was Taised. Receiving a call at four liinutea past six, the City Fire Brigade promptly arrived on the scene, but-by that time the blaze had a strong hold.. v Despite the fact that they had to contend with the., influence of the high wind, the brigadesmen succeeded in confining the outbreak to the upper portion of the dwelling, the front of' which was severely damaged, however. Fortunately, the rear part was saved. Very slight damage by fire was dono to the ground floor, although the contents suffered by water.
