DEPUTATION TO HON. W. D. S. MACDQNALD. By Telegraph—Press Association. • Christchurch, May 19. Replying to a deputation of delegates of Canterbury public bodies at Arthur's Pass on Snturda.v urging him to use liis endeavours for the expedition of work in the Otirn Tunnel, tho Hon. W. D. S. MaeDonald, who has just completed a tour of the West Coast, gave a. very sympathetic answer. Ho had been grcatlv impressed with the possibilities of Westland, both in regard to agricultural and pastoral pursuits and the mining industry, and he said that the linking up of Canterbury witli Westland by railway would add materially to tho' progress of the provinces. Personally, considering the amount of expenditure which was earning practically no interest in connection with tunnel work, ho did not think any other work was so important to complete. The Auckland iines were very important, especially the connection with Napier, but none was more important than the Midland Railway.

The. Stenniak horse All Bed, who is now owned 'by Mr. James Bull, of Hunterville, got a good advertisement; at tho Timnru meeting, where Caltach, The Boss, Radial, and All Soreno all won for liiui.
