THE COAL SHORTAGE
SUPPLIES IN AUCKLAND FAR BELOW DEMANDS. By Telej>rapb-Pre6s Association. Auckland, May 6. Although the coal shortage is so acute at present and there eecine little likelihood of any adequate measure of relief, Auckland merchants, when interviewed, seemed hopeful that .the city "would worry through the winter somehow." This -was as far as they would go. "There is no doubt whatever that the situation is so serious," said one, "and although we are picking up supplies wherever passible they are greatly , below the demand. Tho position is certainly vforso than it was this time last year."
