SIR ANDREW RUSSELL
FITTING RECEPTION TO BE •TENDERED IN THE SOUTH: By Telegraph-Press Association. Christchurch, May 6. A fitting reception is to be tendered to Major-General Sir Andrew Eusscll on arrival at Lyttelton next week. Dr. Thncker, M.P., Mayor-elect. of Christchurch, has telegraphed to Captain T. T. Seddon, M.P., who was for a time' on General Russell's staff, inviting him to come to Christchurch to assist at tho welcome. This afternoon Dr. Thacker received' tho Mowing reply from Mr. Seddon, who, is at Wellington: "I am leaving to-morrow with the Hon. Mr. MacDoniild, via Nelson, for the Mining Conference at Hokitika. I regret exceedingly I shall ho unable to take part in your reception to my General, May your councillors and Canterbury generally give a fitting welcome home to New Zealand's greatest Boldier."
