UNSOLDIER-LIKE BEHAVIOUR

DURING THE ANZAC DAY PARADE. By, Telegraph—Press Association , Christchurch, April 29. At the annual meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association a letter was received lrom Captain '.Robertson, district adjutant of Canterbury military district, in which he stated:—"The O.C. Canterbury district, Colonel R. A. Chafl'ey, has asked me. to draw attention to the un-soldier-like behaviour of many returned soldiers while on parade on Anzac Day. The total disregard of the most elementary forms of discipline was especially noticeable, both during the march to and from llagloy. Park, and nI6D while formed up at tho saluting base. It is much regretted that attention should, have to be drawn to 6uch behaviour on the part of some members of your association, but it is felt that unless some guarantee can be given that better discipline will be maintained in future, tho question of allowing returned soldiers to; take part in any recognised militaT.j function will have to be seriously- reconsidered. Such behaviour as playing twoup. while at the saluting base, insulting remarks passed by men in the, ranks towards officers, smoking, and calling out while in the inarch through the city cannot he tolerated." .

It was resolved to let the letter lie cn the table.
