SOUTHERN MARKETS
By Tolegrayll—Press Association. Christchurch, April 25. The oats market lias firmed a little, there having been an advance of one penny per bushel for prompt delivery. It is reported that forward sales are now i being made up to 4s. Id, f.0.b., and (iar- 1 tons are therefore, worth 3s. 4d. to 3s. sd. {at .country stations. -. ."there, is a general impression there is not a large quantity of Garton oats in Canterbury this' seai6on. Owing to their comparative failure during the last few dry seasons, .Gartons were discarded by many , fanners in favour of Algerians. Those who held, on to Gartons have reaped the ad-1 .vantage, as they have yielded best this season, and because of their inore limited I quantity are in'better demand. Dun 3 aro also scarce this season. -, Oatsheaf chaff is , a little firmer, as there was not sufficient appearing at late rates to supply the larger demand that has now 6et in. There is an inquiry from Wellington for chaff, and tho price has advanced to' >£4 10s. to £i las. per ton at country stations.. • There is difficulty in getting shipping 'space to enablo orders to bo fillfd for tho April delivery of potatoes for Wellington, but as fresh orders are coming in the market is firmer, =85 10s. to <£5 15s. being paid; at country stations, according to tlie distance some of tlie crops 'are not turning out as well as was expected, -and seven to eight tons per acre may be considered good yields. The market for seeds is very dull, there being praotically no business doing. There is no change in prices.
