THE OFFICIAL COUNTS. ' The. returning ( otneers in most of the districts have completed their official counts of the votes cast at this licensing poll. There hus been delay in several districts owing to the non-arrival of the papers of absent voters from distant parts of the country, and in at least one electorate the count will not begin until to-day. The final returns of the civilian votes may not be available before the beginning of next week. The latest official totals are as follow: Civilian Votes.. Continuance 229,061 Prohibition 242,097 Alajority for Prohibition 13,036 Soldiers' Votes. Continuance 19,960 Prohibition 4,700 Majority for Continuance 15,260 Total Votes. Continuance 249,021 Prohibition 246,797 Majority for Continuance 2,224 The number of informal votes recorded stands at present at 3157. This number it* not considered to be abnormally large on n, total poll of nearly 500,000 votes. The count of the votes cast by undischarged soldiers in New Zealand is expected to be completed to-morrow. The figures will be made public on Friday. The opinion was expressed by the men on the hospital ship Mahono, which arrived to-day, that of 390 votes polled on Ixmrd in connection with the liquor referendum, not more than 50 would favour prohibition.
