At a meeting last night, n motion was' passed by the National Executive of the J Federation of Labour protesting against ' the proposal of the Court-of Arbitration to fix a basic wa.se for skilled, semi- • skilled, and unskilled viker?. "In our i opinion such a principle should not bo accepted until the views of Labour are ascertained fit the national conference," the motion stated. "We think-the time is opportune for a ■ National Industrial Conference to he ; held, representative < ; f employers mid workers, at which the whole position of industry in New Zealand could be discussed and proposals fumulated on many • important matters, including wages, upon i which, up to the present, the opinions of • thoso engaged have not been ascertained, ■ and we ask the Government to er.U such '• a conference as early as possible."
