At the group rifle meeting hold at the Fairview range on Thursday, R. J. King won the Bifle Club championship with a score of 79, W. Algie, of Alfredton, being second with G3. Corporal C. T. Higgs won the Territorial championship, and Cadet D. Wilton the Senior Cadet championship,

Mr. E. W. Payton, of Mount Bruce, has sold his farm of 810 acres to Mr. James Rutherford.

The drought that has been' experienced in the Wairanipa for the last two months was broken on Thursday night, when copious rain fell. The registration in Masterton was nearly three-quarters of an inch.

The Hon. J. A. Ilanan, Minister of Education, will arrive in Masterton at noon on Saturday. He will be waited upon by deputations from the District/ High School Committee and Technical School,manngcrs.

A team from the Masterton Bowling Club visited Carterton on Thursday, but play had lo bo discontinued in consequence of a heavy downpour of rain.

Tho Minister of Ediicalion visited Greytown, Featherston, and ■ South Featherslon yesterday, inspecting the schools. A deputation from the Featherston School and Educational Reform Association, represented by Major E. 11. Catherwood. broached the matter of a new school building on a larger site. The Minister was impressed by his observations as to local conditions, and urged that steps bo taken towards securing a better site.
