CHANGE OP NAME ALLEGED
A young man named Henry Arthur Grant wns charged before Mr. F- \. Frazer, S.M., at the Magistrate e Court yesterday with haying assumed the name of Jack Wilson, without having received the consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs. It was alleged that Grant adopted such a name at Auckland on Miircli 18. Ho wns also charged witfi having indecently assaulted a girl aged four years, at Wellington, on January 1". 1017. . , „ , „ Evidence was given by Constable Barnes to the effect that he arrested the accused on the charge of indecent assault, in Auckland, on March 18. Grant gave the name of Jack Wilson. In , reply to Mr. H. F. O'Leary, who appeared for accused, the witness said that Grant produced ships' discharges in the name of Jack Wilson. Afterwards he said his name was Henry Arthur Grant. -. - ' Mr. O'Leary: Do you know whether ■he is a reservist?—"He had been attached to the Fiftieth Eeinforcement." Do you know that he ran away from home years ago, and.joined a ship in Hie name of Jack Wilson ?-"He told me he did." ' , At this stajro the accused waa remanded until April 3. His Worship refused to grant bail. OTHER CASES.
Five first offenders charged with insobriety wero fined 55., in default twentyfour hours' imprisonment, and one was mulcted in a penalty of 10s. Francisco Freitas was ordered to pay 10s. per week townrds the support of each of two children, and to pay past maintenance amounting to .£ls in respect of each, child.together with cB7 Bi. costs.
