WELLINGTON SOUTH CLUB. The penultimate round of the Wellington Soyth Chess Club's annual championship tourney was contested last, week, and resulted as follows.—6. P. Andc--son (l)'v. Harper (0), Purchas (1) v. Weiton (0), Berry (1) v. Clark (0), and S. I'aulknor (1) v. H. J. Thompson (0); Only two of the eight competitors are now in the running, viz., G. P. Anderson (present ehnmpion), mid D. Purchas (exchanipion). They have each played six games and won them all. Both nre in fine form, and consequently a game wwthy of the occasion is looked for when they meet in the final round next Thursday: NORTH V. SOUTFf. The question of reviving the above pre-war fixture is under consideration in local chess circles. Taking Manners Street and its continuations as tho dividing lino each side can put. in about 70 players if city and suburban chessists rally round the scheme, tt has been suggested that the pairings should lie arranged in advance and a fortnight allowed in which to play the fixtures.
