SUBSIDY TO FLOURMILLERS RECOMMENDED

I The Board of Trade has decided to recommend tho Government to grant « subsidy to flour millers in order to prevent an advance in the price of. bread, which would otherwise be inevitable on account of the increases, in the price of wheat, sacks and manufacturing charges. The board is sitting in Auckland, and it was explained to-day that the advance of Bd. per bushel in the price of, wheat was equivalent to 'i£l-12s. per. ton. on a reckoning of -18 bushels to the ton. Sacks had risen from 105 d. to la. I'd. each. Advances which had taken place in carting and other manufacturing charces were equivalent to 7s. Gd. The total increase per ton was, therefore, JU2 Vs. Gd. The price of Hour had been reduced by 10s., making the present price in Auckland £\<j nor ton. The flour miller was experiencing a loss of JE2 17s. Bd., these calculations being made as at March. 1. The subsidy recommended is on the basis of £2 17s. Bd. per ton of flour.
