Sy Telegraph—Press Association, Hokitika, March 17; The Wesllnnd Mining Syndicate's iirsl dredge started operations to-day, ill the Arnhura Valley, near Humphrey's Gully, oud is working very satisfactorily. Tho dredge lias been fitted with' special machinery for the purpose'of replacing tlio lop soil back on the tailings, and thereby converting the present, valueless swamp land into future grass land. Tha syndicate, of which Mr. David Ziman . fs director, is having a second dredge dismantled at Ahaura for removal to the 1 Arnhurn River, to operate a short dis- : taneo away from the present dredge. !
