FIRE IN A KAURI FOREST
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. Br Telegraph-Press Association, Dargaville, March 11. A fire broke out in the Waipoua Kauri Forest last Thursday, an , adjacent settler's burning-off being the cause. The caretaker, with a gang of men, has been, working continuously to prevent, its spread. Word received this' morning was that the fire was well under unless a wind springs up. , Considerable damage has been done. It is estimated that from 150,000 ft. to 200,000 ft. of dry timber has been destroy, ed, and fully fifty green kauri trees.
