CHAUTAUQUA OPENS ON SATURDAY
Tho big Chautauqua assembly which opens in Wellington on the church lot, Boukott Street on Saturday afternoon is P«.vt of a. world movement for democracy. The lecturers, it is stated; will discuss vital issues in a strong and popular way. At the same timo no political or sectarian issues arc permitted to find place on the platform. There will be five lectures in Wellington. The music, it )s promised, will be popular as well ae of the highest and best. Music will be on every programme afternoon and night. Tho'Hon. J. C. Herbsmau, town-planner, addressed a large, audience last night in Wnngoiiui. From there he will come to Wellington. Miss Mildred Clemens, cousin of Mark Twain, has secured some fine viows of New Zealand to add to her travlogue lecture,;, and will talk of the Dominion on a large Cliautauqua circuit in tho States next summer. After Wellington the thirty-five Chautauquans go to Mnsteiion, Levin, Veildinj Hastings, Napier, Palmerston. Ynihape, Wangaaiii, Hawera, Stratford, New Plymouth, Hamilton, Kotorua, Thames, and close at Auckland in time to join.- the Niagara back to America.
