THE NAVAL TERMS

KIEL CANAL TO BE FREE TO CIVILIAN TRAFFIC.

(liec. February II), 8.10 p.m.) Paris, February 17. The final working out of the armistice terms will begin to-morrow. Probably little will be said about the naval terms, because the surrender of" the German Fleet under the original armistice has pretty well crippled Germany in that direction. There are still a few vessels t> be delivered. Possibly the armistice will provide- the actual surrender of the big ships at Scapa, which up to the present have merely been interned. If this is done the vessels are.likely to be destroyed. The final peace terms will undoubtedly include the destruction of the fortifications of Heligoland aud make Kiel' Canal free to civilian traffic. Germany will ultimately bo left with a sufficient fleet for non-aggressive purposes.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

FURTHER SURRENDERS EXPECTED (Rcc. February 19, 11.50 p.m.) London, February 17. It is expected that the armistice.terms will insist on the surrender of eight more battle-Ships, eight cruisers, and 42 destroyers, and 50 torpedo-boats, also the surrender of the Kiel tubular dock and the destruction of all submarines and submarine docks, war equipment, and auxiliary cruisers.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
