ERZBERGER PROTESTS AGAINST THEIR
SEVERITY

■Marshal Fcch has-returned with the armistice duly signed. Herr Erzberger made a lengthy speech, in which he protested against the severity of the terms. He urged America to remember how Germany came to her aid in 18G2, during her economic crisis, and asked for kindness towards the Germans,' who were now very poor. Admiral Browning, who accompanied Marshal Foch, reports that naval terms are being compiled with the Germans for handing over all completed submarines and permitting "those 1 in course of construction to be destroyed under British supervision.—Aus.-N.Z. February 19, S.iO p.m.) Paris, February 17; Herr Erzberger tried hard to secure , a day's prolongation before/signing, the renewal of the amistici-, but Jl'asual Foch was adamant. 'Herr Erzberger declared that Germany.had now only two hundred thousand troops under arms. ' The polongation was creating distrust in Germany and paving the .way for Bolshevism. Germany was prepared loyally to participate in the League of Nations on the'principle of political and economic equality. Herr Erzberger admitted that Germany had committed a blunder in annexing Alsace-Lorraine without consulting the population, and he honed that France would not commit the same blunder.—Aus.-N.Z. EKZBERGER'S POWERS ON COMMISSION CURBED. . .(Bee. February 19, 7.40 p.m.).,
Paris, February 17. It is understood that Herr Erzberger's powers on the Armistice Commission are curbed. He will not be allowed to mate decisions, and must submit all proposals to the Government, at "Weimar.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
