WRECKED ON REEF
COPRA-LADEN SCHOONER. By Telegraph-Press Association. Auckland, February 4. Further details wore received to-day regarding the wreck of the American fourmasted schooner Espada, which went ashoro on what is known as the Barrier Reef, about two or three miles north of Nabukalau Island, about sixteen miles froni.Levuka. The schooner was loaded, with S2O tons of copra for the stores of Messrs. Morris, Hedstrom, Ltd., and left tho harbour at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, bound for San Francisco. Tho vessel went ashore in a. rain-squall and took the reef hard and fast, but no lives were lost. Tho cargo of copra was worth about ,£23,000,' and the vessel was worth about ,£15,000.. The scene of the wreck is not far from where the s.s. Syria was wrecked, .when several hundreds of Indians lost their lives. The wreck was sold by Lloyd's agent for ,£6lO. The purchasers were Messrs. Burns, Philp, and Co.
