OVERCROWDING OF SCHOOL
A DESIRABLE REFORM. In conversation with a reporter yesterday regarding the question of school accommodation tho Hon. J. A. Eanan (Minister of Education) said that ho was giving instructions _ for education boards to he advised that in connection with applications for grants for the erection of new schools, or additions to existing schools, a basis of not less than 12sq. feet of floor space per pupil in average attendance will now be adopted, in general, as tlifi standard of echool accommodation and plans should be submitted accordingly. With this improvement and the favourable consideration given to applications where overcrowding is proved to exist,some of the complaints made in the past would, he thought, be removed.
