HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

Mr. F. G. Cooper presided at the meeting of the Hutt County Council held yesterday, and there were present also: Councillors W. Galloway, J. Whiteman, M. W. Welch, P. Cavanagli, and W. J. Howell. .It was decided to comply with the recjueSt of H.M. Trade Commissioner to supply particulars of registration of motor-cars and-motor-cycles within the county. • The Mines Department wrote asking for a return of the metal quarried last year, and the council decided to supply the information. Wednesday was again selected as the statutory half-holiday. . The Inspector of Works (Mr. J. W. Cudby) in his report stated that two concrete pipe culverts had been put in near tho railway bridge in Epuni Riding. The two spans of the Silverstream bridge had been filled and the timber of the eastern span taken out. When comploted the bridge would bo shortened by 47ft., and this would reduce the cost of maintenance by about one-third. Mr. Natusch had completed the road and bridge according to plans approved by the council, and the work had been faithfully carried out, the .length of road including the bridge being about 7} chains. About 43 chains of the Waiwctu Stream had been cleared of vegetablo matter at a cost of 3s. per chain.
