TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
■ -..'.,. :—» — ACCOMMODATION AT HAWERA. ' By Telegraph—Press Association.' , Hawera, January 14. Last year the Council of Education recommended the establishment of a Technical High School in Hawera, a'iid the Minister from time to time has been approached regarding the matter, but'has given no definite reply. The Mayor of Hawera therefore called a public indignation meeting to protest against the delay. Just before the meeting last night, which was largely attended, the following message was recoived from tho Hon. J. A. Hanau, Minister for Education: "Am advised by the Department that adequate building accommodation docs not exist at Hawera for all pupils taking the Technical High School and secondary courses, and for that reason it is undesirable at present, to disestablish the District High School. In the meantime I am prepared to give' favourable consideration to an application for a grant for a Technical High School building, provided the plans meet with approval, and I will endeavour to expedite matters so that the erection oi the new buildings may be put in hand and completed, if possible, by the end of the year." ! The meeting considered tho telegra-n a 'Step in the right direction', and passed the following motion: "That the Minister's telegram be acknowledged; that ho "be thanked for his offer of a grant to build a Technical High Schopl within twelye months, and that the offer be accepted." A second motion carried was: "That this meeting request the Minister to at onco disestablish tho present District High School, whon the Hawera people will undertake to find the"necessary building accommodation for tho pupils for the next twelve months.".
