At the monthly meeting of tho Wellington School Committees' Association (the president, Mr. A. G. Wallace, in the chair),,after considerable discussion with reference to the policy of the Minister of Education, in compelling school committees to raise half the amount, for subsidy, where additional playground area or buildings are required before the necessary work is placed in hand, the following motion was carried "That this association enters its emphatic protest against the action of the Minister of Education in compelling school committees to provide half the required amounts for the purchase of additional playing or building areas required for any school; and considers that this is a responsibility, cast on tho State nud not 6chool committees." Complaints having been made to the association of the action of the Education Department in erecting new buildings upon the present inadequate playing areas, when other land was available, the following motion was carried: "That in the opinion of this association it is I'dvisable that where additional accommodation is being provided at vai'i'.m-i schouls, the playing areas should not be encroached upon lor such buildiligs." The asweiation heartily supported tl>n Wellington Education Board in its endeavour to secure payment to relieving teachers of salaries during the'summer vacation; also that any decrease in average attendance due to recent influenza epidemic should not be taken into account in determining the status of any school or teacher.
