"FIRST AID" IN SCHOOLS
'MENTIONED AT EDUCATION BOARD ,••■■■- MEETING. ■'■■:• • ■ A recent experience has taught people 'many things. One of those is the value 'of "first aid" in sickness—what to do and how to do it. At yesterday's mee't'ing of the Education flourd, Mr.' J. J. I Clark eaid that before very long- a pub,lic feeling would manifest itself in favour of teaching "first aid" work in our schools. If the board did not take this important subject. up the public would :demand that it should'be taken up. ■The epidemic had taught them that even ; a little knowledge is valuoble-the voluntary helper with a few. days' experience !' became almost us valuable as a skilled nurse-and a schoolgirl could bo taught what to do in cases of such diseases as .measles and scarlet fever/ so that a house with schoolgirls in it would not be 'left entirely helpless. ■ This was a matter in which the board could lead the way. ' The chairman: Would you move a resolution? Mr. Clark: I feel rather-diffident about doing that, as I am aware of tho manner in whioh the syllabus is crowded at present, and that something would have to be dropped to make room for firet aid. ,
It was finally agreed that Mr'. Clark should confer with the inspector (Mr. .tSakewell) and some of the head teachers ei's. ... . .
