TELEGRAPHS AND TELEPHONES
ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL. Speaking to a Dominion reporter on Saturday, 51r. A, J. Talbot, Supervisor of Telegraphs in Wellington, said that his staff was pretty well back to normal. On the previous Saturday there had been 202 officers away froai the telegraph and telephone staffs, but on Saturday last that number had been induced to about 100. As there were in normal times about thirty-live or forty away, for one thing or another, lie could almost say that they were back to normal. They were now dealing with ordinary telegrams, and probably from this evening the .telegraph hours would le extended from 5 p.m. to S p.m. In making these changes, they had not only to consider their own staffs, but' the staffs of other centres where the influenza was at work. Christchurcli and Dunedin had. both teen badly hit, but were now pulling rounil satisfactorily. The postal staff in Wellington is also returning in good strength, and the deliveries will be improved during tho current week.
