LATE MR. ALFRED E. SMITH
4 TRIBUTE TO HIS MEMORY. At the formal meeting of the Y.M.C.A!. last evening the chairman, Mr. C. Jf. Luke, moved: "That this meeting places on record its high appreciation of the mochiiicent services rendered i the Y.M.C.A. by tho Into A. E. Smith; in his position as acting-secrptary, and that the sympathy of (he meeting be tendered • to tho widow and children nnd other relatives of the deceased." In moving the resolution Mr. Lnkn paid a high tribute to the good work of the late secretary, who was most assiduous in his application to his duties. The Y.M.C.A. had suffered a great loss in losing Mr. Smith, and they would experience great difficulty in -replacing him. The Y.M.C.A. stood for all that was best for young men, and a secretary must hove an' amiable disposition; must possess ability, and must be capable of assisting young ■men. The late. Mr. A. E. Smith possessed Ihese qualifications. Hβ was a man of many parts, and he had plenty of enthusiasm • and energy. Any hour, night or _ day, ho was ready to meet tho needs of his office, and to make any sacrifice to rneel. them. They all sympathised with the widow and the two little children in their bereavement,
