A LONG HOLIDAY
STATE SCHOOLS NOT TO REASSEMBLE UNTIL FEBRUARY i.
The prevailing epidemic has swept upon Wellington just as the most interesting part of tho educational year was approaching, viz., the examination period. Now all examinations have been summarily postponed sine die, , every school is closed, some of them arc hospitals, and it is vain guesswork to say when they will be released and conditions will again be normal. When the epidemic is over tho schools will have to be submitted to a most thorough and exhaustive fumigation and cleansing. The chavrman'of the Education Board (Mr. Thomas Forsyth), in consultation with the secretary mid those members of the lxmrd lie could get into touch with, decided yesterday afternoon that it would ,be imprudent to reassemble the Slate school children again this year. That being so. it was decided that the whole of the State schools throughout the Wellington district will not reopen again for school work until Tuesday, February i.
