CITIZENS' CHRISTMAS GIFT FUND
Mr. C. G. Wilson presided at a meeting of representatives'.from tlie Associated Aniatour Sports Bodies held . last night ill connectfon with the Citizens' Christmas' Gift Fund. Mr. AVildoe. explained that for several years post, the fiports bodies had promoted a fumj at. this time of the year lor-providing trench comforts for- men at the various fighting fronts. He mentioned, however, that the effort on this occasion .would come into .conflict with the appeal being made by the Returned Soldiers' Club Committee,, and suggested that as provision had been made for sending forward parcels for several months ahead that the sports bodies' effort should be postponed. ■ Thie view was supported by eeveval spenders, and' was agreed to by the meeting. The sports bodies will now assist tiie returned soldiers' appeal, and, if necessary in the early part of next year, set out in an effort to provide f'.imU in order that the Mayoress (Mrs. Luke) vnny continue with her work' in "onnijct'oii with gift parcels until the war has been won.
