BAPTIST CONFERENCE
The annual meetings cf the Baptist Union were continued yesterday in the Vivian Street Baptist Church. \ The retiring president, the Rev. J. K. Archer,'introduced the new president, Mr. N. P. W. Lascelles, of Tiraaru, who signed the presidential Bible. Mr. W. Lamboume presented the budget of estimated expenditure and receipts for the coming year. Proposed grants to aided churches amounted to £1309. The total estimated expenditure was £1549. 'The following resolutions were passed by the assembly:— "That the assembly strongly urges all the members and adherents of the churches of our order, at this present crisis, to support only such candidates for Parliament as can bo relied on to further any ar<l aU legislation in favour of Prohibition."
"That this assembly of the Baptist Union of New Zealand views vith apprehension tho tendency of Protestant parents to .send their 'ihildrcn to receive education in Roman Catholic institutions. Believing that this practice makes both directly and indirectly for the weakening of our Protestant witness wo strongly urge its uiscontimiance."
"That this conference is deeply concerned for the protection of women and children from the ravages cf venereal disease, and ask the executive committee to communicate with tho heads of other Churches with a view to concerted action to ('cal with the menace. The conference also recommends the appointment of a committee to srrange a definite social purity campaign among the children and young people of our churches."
